Description

The Howick Falls Hotel is located in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, just 24kms from Pietermaritzburg. Built in 1872. the Howick Falls Hotel has a proud history and can count such famous historic icons Mark Twain, Cecil John Rhodes and Paul Kruger amongst its list of past guests.

The Hotel is situated in the centre of Howick, in the middle of the Midlands Meander, a stone’s throw from the Howick Falls where the Umgeni river plunges 300ft into the Umgeni Valley. Below the Howick Falls is the Umgeni Valley Project, a 650ha reserve owned and managed by the Wildlife Society of Southern Africa. It contains giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, nana, impala, eland and other mammals

The Hotel was initially the major stop-off point for Pioneers, Explorers and weary travelers making their way from the coastal town of Durban to the goldfields of the Highveld and beyond. It was named after the Secretary for State for the Colonies, Henry Grey, who had recently acquired the title of Lord Howick.

In 2007 the Hotel underwent a major renovation to turn it into a modern boutique hotel offering 18 luxury bedrooms, all en-suite with air-conditioning, DSTV and state of the art high security keyless card entry system. 4 of the rooms are suites/family rooms and today the Howick Falls Hotel offers the most modern accommodation available in the Midlands ideally suited to travelers such as tour groups, holidaying families, relatives of the many scholars and retired people who live Hilton/Howick and sportsmen and women participating in events such as the Comrades Marathon and Midmar Mile swim.
